A hallway at Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM-Q) turned pink as the college held a Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser for Qatar Cancer Society. The event was organised by the WCM-Q Hematology-Oncology Interest Group, led by its president, third-year medical student Aya Youssef. The fundraising event raised QAR23,000.
Aya, who hopes to practice as a paediatric oncologist after she graduated, said they had great success with the event last year at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Center, the reason why they decided to hold it again this year, to raise awareness and funds, for Qatar Cancer Society.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser hosted education stations to tell people about the symptoms of breast cancer and to debunk medical myths about the disease. Representatives from Qatar Cancer Society were in attendance, together with a number of vendors selling a variety of products. These participating business enterprises agreed to donate a percentage of their earnings to Qatar Cancer Society.
