The Secretary of National Traffic Safety Committee and President of Organizing Committee for 24th World ITMA (International Traffic Medicine Association) Congress, Brigadier Engineer Mohammed Abdullah Al Maliki, has launched the ITMA Congress website on Monday 16 January 2014.
Qatar will host the World ITMA Congress from 16 to 18 November 2015, under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
‘Traffic Medicine and Road Safety in Fast Developing Countries’ is the theme of ITMA 2015 World Congress that will provide a multidisciplinary network and forum for scientists and practitioners involved in traffic safety to interact with each other and exchange ideas and information on the latest issues in this field.
Brigadier Al Maliki said that the importance of this Congress stems from its title itself as it’s a global scientific Congress to discuss all issues related to traffic medicine including health care services rescue services and security and legal measures as well as educational programs integrated into traffic medicine system.
He added that the newly launched website will be considered as a gate through which the outside world overlooks to get out and recognise the efforts of Qatar in various fields, particularly areas of traffic medicine and safety as areas of concern and care of the highest authorities in the state. He pointed that the website provides necessary information about Qatar and about the 24th ITMA Congress and its related services such as participation, registration, visas and hotel bookings and other services.
According to the Director of Medical Rehabilitation at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and member of Congress Organizing Committee, Dr Wafa Al Yazidi, the Ministry of Interior, National Traffic Safety Committee, General Directorate of Traffic, HMC, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Ministry of Transport, Qatar University all are working together for this Congress where 300-500 experts are expected to present their papers to bring out best results in the field of traffic medicine and safety.
Director of Central Planning Office at the Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning, Engineer Jamal Shuraida Al Kaabi, the Congress is unique of its kind as will cover the topics of engineering and medicine and its relation with road safety and accidents which will further boost efforts in the field of traffic medicine and road engineering.
The ITMA World Congress covers all areas of Traffic Medicine and its associated disciplines. Delegates to this congress will include medical doctors, physiologists, psychologists, traffic safety experts, vehicle designers and manufacturers, engineers, policy makers, police officers, and insurance experts. The congress will be a great opportunity for exchanges between experts from many disciplines connected to traffic safety and traffic injuries.
This congress will focus on the progress in traffic safety and traffic injury prevention and treatment in recent years, and will bring famous traffic medicine experts together to share the most advanced traffic medicine concepts, theories and techniques in order to promote traffic crash prevention, traffic safety, first-aid, medical treatment, and accordingly reduce the mortality and disability resulting from traffic injury in the world, to raise the road user’s health standard and the quality of life.
This congress will also invite domestic and international manufacturers whose products are related to traffic safety and traffic injury treatment. There will be an exhibition targeting new and current products and technology.
