Kyle Brown with the Doha College student leadership team

Three-time World Series winner and South Africa’s most capped rugby player Kyle Brown, was given a rapturous welcome at Doha College primary campus in West Bay when he recently stopped by to meet excited students.

With DC Principal Dr Steffen SommerAs an incredible athlete with vast amounts of experience, Brown eagerly spoke to students about leadership, just as the school’s new student leadership team was being announced for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Students at Doha College are being shaped into responsible global citizens right from their primary school years. One of the ways to achieve this is involving them actively in as many aspects of school life as possible. The college offers students a diverse range of leadership opportunities: head boy and head girl, school councillors, prefects, eco-warriors, charity committee members, house captains and a tech-oriented ‘iChild’ in each class.

Newly instated Head Girl Aatika Khalid (West Bay campus), shared some of her aspirations for the coming academic year.

I would like to cement Doha College’s position as the topmost eco-friendly school in Qatar by organising inter-school competitions. Also, I think it’s important that school is fun, and I’d like to introduce LEGO education. I would also like to see our school even more involved with charitable causes.’

Kyle Brown, an exceptionally experienced captain who led his team to historic victories, shared some truly inspiring words with the students.

Leadership is a very interesting space. If we grow and empower those eager around us and develop them as leaders, we will be able to lift others up to a place where they can achieve things never first thought imaginable.’

Doha College also has a long-standing rugby tradition, with multiple selections of its staff and students representing Qatar in international tournaments through the years. Kyle Brown’s visit was a fitting tribute to the value that the school places on transparent and inclusive leadership, as well as its strong ties with rugby, sports in general and the community.
