Progress step by step with this Introduction to Yoga course. These courses introduce the principles of Yoga breathing, the basics of the poses and fundamentals such as sun Salutation, Vinyasa and deep relaxation. By the end of the programme, you will be ready to continue your practice by joining any of the regular Yama Yoga Classes.

Yoga for Emotional Balance

Learn to quiet your busy mind and become less emotionally reactive. Increase your tolerance for the stresses of a busy life. Awaken your ability to heal yourself and develop inner calm. In the Yoga for Emotional Balance course students will develop practical, ‘take away’ skills that help regulate the central nervous system. You will learn how to lower the production of stress hormones such as cortisol and increase the release of ‘feel good’ hormones such as oxitocin. You will explore a wide variety of self-healing yoga techniques that will allow you to create a personalised programme suited to your needs. By the end of the course, you will have built a solid foundation of healing habits for life.

Techniques we will explore include:

  • Breathing practices
  • Mind-body regulating techniques
  • Yoga postures
  • Yoga Nidra (ancient yoga practice to enhance sleep)
  • Guided visualisation/relaxation
  • Mindfulness/meditation practices (including mindful eating)
  • Insight exercises to train in the recognition of distorted thinking

Teacher: Jacki Woodworth. She has worked in the field of Social Work (MSW) for nearly 30 years, and has been teaching stress reduction classes for nearly as long. She has been teaching Mindfulness Stress Reduction & Yoga (200 RYT) for four years. Woodworth shares with others what she has learned from her wise teachers and mentors. With a knowledge base grounded in years of experience, Jacki strives to create inspiring, informative, compassionate and supportive classes where students can explore learning and personal growth.

Natural Childbirth Education Course

This unique childcare program will prepare parents for the arrival of their baby. It offers a simple methodology or even philosophy to empower women to have a positive birth experience; to enable the father or partner to take the role of supporter and carer and give the baby to be given the best possible start in life. You will learn about the emotional and physical changes before, during and after birth. You will learn breathing techniques, relaxations, affirmations and other techniques to help to relax you. Lots of practical information about what happens in each stage of labour and how best to deal with this will be covered. You will be informed about your choices as a woman giving birth and feel empowered and in control of your body. You can still use the techniques to great benefit if you decide not to have a natural birth or if a medical intervention becomes necessary.

Using the popular Hypnobirthing Techniques you will:

  • Shorter, less painful labour
  • Less interventions
  • Give the best start for baby
  • Strengthens Father’s/partner’s role
  • Quicker recovery period

Mindfulness – Stress Reduction Course

Mindfulness training teaches us about paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, non- judgmentally, in the present moment (Kabat-Zinn). The present is central to our lives as we can neither predict the future nor change the past. Mindfulness helps us learn to open our senses, so we can stop living life on ‘auto-pilot’ and start fully experiencing the richness of life as each moment unfolds.

What does Mindfulness have to offer? Research shows that practicing Mindfulness on a regular basis can reduce stress, depression, fatigue, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, sleep disturbances, anxiety, asthma, skin disorders, panic, heart diseases and chronic pain.

Course Expectations:

Mindfulness training helps us develop deeper awareness, peace, and clarity through:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices -Guided instruction in gentle Hatha yoga and breathing exercises
  • Exploration of the connection of mind-body-thoughts and sensations -Group dialogues and mindful communication
  • Daily home assignments

This course involves active participation both in the classroom and at home as you learn and develop mindfulness practices in your daily life.
