For the first time in its fourth year under the Samsung Diamond League label, the Doha 2013 Athletics meeting will feature the reigning 100 m World Champion and 4 x 100 m Olympic Champion in the entry list of this year’s edition.

Yohan Blake, the man who won the 100 m World title in Daegu (18 months ago) and became the youngest World Champion in the history of 100 m, has agreed to open his 2013 Diamond League campaign at the first meeting of the season, in Doha on May 10.

Twenty-three-year-old Blake, who earned a 4 x 100 m relay gold medal in a world record time  at the London Olympic Games along with silvers in 100 m and 200 m, will become the ninth Jamaican to enter the 100 m dash in Doha and aims to become not only the third sprinter from his country to emerge victorious on Qatar’s soil, after Raymond Stewart’s and Asafa Powell’s wins in 1997 and 2010 respectively, but also to break the meeting record, 9.85, which stands since 2006.

Blake: “I hope to break the meeting record in Doha”

Yohan Blake said,

‘This will be my first time in Qatar and I am looking forward to going to Doha, for my first Diamond League appearance on the Asian continent. I have heard about the fast track in Doha and I hope to break the meeting record. I always want to surprise the audience, everywhere I go’

In the last couple of seasons, Yohan Blake has ran faster than Fasuba’s current meeting record – seven times. Blake’s personal best is 9.69, a time that ranks him tied with Tyson Gay for second place in the 100 m all-time lists.

He is equally fast in the 200 m with a personal best of 19.26, the second fastest time in history, while in early February he even tried the 400 m in a meeting in Kingston where he finished in 46.77.

The Jamaican sprinter, who is also known as ‘The Beast’ said,

I am the second fastest man in the world at the moment. My ambition is to become the best. I have to continue working very hard for that. Anything is possible
