Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) recently held a formal convocation ceremony to officially welcome more than 100 first-year students of the Class of 2027.

Members of the CMU-Q senior administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni were present for the ceremony, which was also live-streamed. CMU-Q is a partner university of Qatar Foundation.

CMU-Q dean Michael Trick shared the importance of community with new students. He said that CMU-Q offers its students more than just education – serving as home to a community that supports and encourages the youth to seek personal growth and development.

First-Year Convocation is a long-standing university tradition that is held before the first day of classes of the fall semester. It is the official start of the academic year, and welcomes the incoming class to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. This year, we welcomed the Class of 2027.

Throughout their four-year learning journey, he said that the students, hopefully, will develop a sense of what they can contribute to the world to make it a better place.

The convocation ceremony caps off a week of orientation activities for new students, including introductions to faculty members, the academic resources available at CMU-Q and their fellow first-year students.

CMU-Q provides undergraduate degree programmes in the fields of biological sciences, business administration, computer science and information systems.

Applications for the fall 2024 semester will open on 1 September.
