Every year, word-lovers in France and abroad await the month of March to celebrate the French language.

On 20 March, to mark International Francophonie Day, a series of events will give the public the opportunity to celebrate the French language in all its richness and modernity.

Francophonie in Qatar

This year’s French language celebration will include the traditional Grande Dictée de la Francophonie (Great Francophonie Dictation) and Dis-moi dix mots (Tell me ten words), in addition to conferences, movie screenings and a gastronomy event.

In Doha, Francophiles will be offered a week of francophone movies, from 21 to 24 March, in partnership with the embassies of Mali, Switzerland and Canada.

On 28 March, writer and editor-in-chief of TV5 Monde Slimane Zeghidour will give a talk at the garden of the French Institute to explore his relationship with the French language.

Francophones of different levels will also have the chance to measure themselves against the Great Francophonie Dictation on 29 March at the French Institute.

Oryx FM radio will air stories from Qatari students, who will share their experience studying in France and their connection to the French language.
