Qatar National Library is celebrating the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ by offering a variety of events and workshops this November. These events will cater to all age groups and focus on culture, heritage, sports, and arts.

Storybook trail

On 1 November, the Library invites visitors to walk the storybook trail at the Qur’anic Botanic Garden and read one page at a time from the bilingual book The Sidra Tree Rains, written by Basma Elkhatib and illustrated by Reem Al Askari. The storybook trail will run until 31 December.

MENASA Cultural Fair

On 3 November, to celebrate the Qatar-MENASA Year of Culture 2022, the Library will host the MENASA Cultural Fair to showcase the diverse cultures and heritage of the MENASA countries through different activities such as folk tales, author talks, art activities, and traditional crafting.

Technology workshops

On 6 November, the Library, in collaboration with Studio 5/6, will host a series of technology workshops for ten days to celebrate the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Children and young adults will learn and discover different topics and tools such as sports technology, 3D modelling, 3D scanning, mixed reality, electronics and coding. The children’s workshops will run from 6 to 10 November and the young adults workshops, from 13 to 17 November. To learn more about this event, visit the Studio 5/6 website at studio56.qa.

Lectures and live music

On 9 November, join the Library for a series of lectures titled, Our Children Matter. The lectures will focus on topics in the fields of childhood, education and children’s health. This lecture will advise working mothers on committing to exclusively breastfeeding when they return to work.

The Library is also hosting a two-day workshop for a fun learning experience with artist Fatima Al Nuaimi, who will show participants how to recycle paper to create attractive bookmarks inspired by the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Finally, the Library will offer guests another night of music featuring the BassiCelli Chamber Music with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.

Goooal!

On 15 November, in celebration of the world’s biggest football tournament in the Middle East and the Arab world, the Library invites visitors to Goooal! How Football Kicked Off in Qatar, an exhibition about the growth and history of football in the country. The exhibition, which will run until 31 January 2023, will present the football journey in Qatar, its origins and how the game developed through the decades until the culmination when the country won the right to host this year’s World Cup.

Sports Information Challenge

On 20 November, the Library, in collaboration with Little Thinking Minds, will host the children’s Sports Information Challenge, open to Library members and involves reading short essays on the Library’s I Read Arabic site and answering the corresponding questions. The competition will run until 20 December (the final date for submissions) and winners will be announced on January 2023.

The Library will also continue to host a variety of fun and engaging events online throughout November. With several in-person events, participants are reminded to adhere to the latest COVID-19 guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health to ensure the well-being and safety of the community.
