Designed by two time Major Champion and World Golf Hall of Fame 2009 José Maria Olazábal, the exciting new venue expects to not only challenge the European Tour stars but to entertain local and international spectators with its unique views of the Doha Skyline and the 2022 Education City World Cup Stadium. The highly-anticipated event is organised jointly by QGA, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), ECGC and long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank.

The tournament is considered Qatar’s annual ‘must-attend’ sporting and social event, first held in 1998 and widely known for bringing together the world’s best golf talent – the likes of Sergio Garcia, Rory Mcllroy, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson – who  have all competed in the past years.

QGA President Hassan Nasser Al Naimi said they are truly grateful for the support of QOC and long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank of Qatar, which has helped position the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters as a significant world-class golf event. He said that they are also very excited about working alongside Education City Golf Club for the 23rd edition.

Commercial Bank EGM and Chief Marketing Officer Hussein Al Abdulla said that their fruitful cooperation with QGA, QOC and ECGC will certainly help showcase to the world the countless opportunities that Qatar can present to the sports industry.

We are looking forward to widen the platform of this cooperation through supporting more sports activities in the future. I am positive that our goals will become easier to achieve now with the new remarkable facility of the Education City Golf Club.’

The 2020 event will see Education City support and emphasise community and family activities as it aims to encourage young Qataris to take up the sport and to grow the game of golf in Qatar.

Speaking on behalf of Education City Golf Club, General Manager Michael Braidwood said they are excited to be the host of the 2020 Qatar Masters.

It will be interesting to see how the European tour stars play the course. The event is an ideal opportunity for us to further our goal in growing the game of golf here in Qatar and we aim to use it as a platform to get as many new people engaged in the game.’

The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was attended by thousands of spectators in 2019 and broadcast to a global TV audience of over 450 million viewers. For its 23rd edition, all eyes will be on Doha as the biggest names in the sport vie for the Mother of Pearl Trophy on one of the newest golf courses on the Tour. The 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will take place on 5 to 8 March.
