The Education City Tram will be ramping up its service frequency to enhance connectivity to the Education City Stadium during the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.

In a report by Gulf Times, Qatar Foundation (QF) Integrated Transportation System director Jassim Eisa Rasheed said the tram’s operational plan will be closely coordinated with the tournament organisers, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Transport, ensuring a seamless and efficient service that includes crowd control and security measures.

Scheduled from 12 January to 10 February, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 features the Education City Stadium as a pivotal venue, hosting four group matches, one round of 16, and one quarter-final. Rasheed emphasised that the tram, in conjunction with the Green Line services, will facilitate access for visitors to all major sites within Education City.

Furthermore, Rasheed highlighted that the tram’s operating hours will be extended on weekends to accommodate student needs and other events. He mentioned the possibility of implementing dedicated tram routes during special events and tournaments at the Education City Stadium, aiming to simplify transportation for fans and visitors.

Since its launch in December 2019, the Education City Tram has proven to be a notable success, creating park-and-ride links among schools, universities, entities, and facilities within Education City. The daily tram passenger count swiftly exceeded 3,000 and has now surpassed 4,000 by the start of the current academic year in September 2023. The monthly average stands at over 120,000 tram passengers, reflecting the tram’s increasing popularity.

All three lines are now operational, with the Blue Line connecting QF schools, the Yellow Line connecting its universities, the Qatar National Library, Minaretein, and QF student housing, and the Green Line connecting Education City’s north campus – which includes Sidra Medicine, the Qatar National Convention Centre, and QF housing – with its south campus.
