The Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), an affiliate of the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s Qatar Social Work Foundation, is organising a walk this Thursday, 21 September, to raise awareness on Alzheimer’s disease. The event follows the theme ‘not too early, not too late’.

The walk, which also marked this year’s observance of World Alzheimer’s Day, focuses on the risk factors associated with the disease and the ways to reduce them.

Ehsan’s Executive Director Fahad bin Mohammed Al Khayarin stressed the importance of community participation in raising awareness of the disease, with the number of people with Alzheimer’s expected to reach three times the current number by the year 2050.

Al Khayarin also pointed out that Alzheimer’s is not classified as an age-related disease and that there are many factors that fight the disease, including improving quality of life, following healthy practices early and doing sports.

The walk is in partnership with Rafeeq.
