The largest conference dedicated to healthcare quality improvement and patient safety in the Arab world is about to open its doors to over 2,500 local and international healthcare professionals.
Organisers announced that the 6th Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare, from 23 to 25 March at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) in Doha, will feature an expanded ‘Knowledge Zone’ exhibition section with strategic healthcare partners showcasing their contribution to quality improvement and patient safety.
This year’s primary partners for the ‘Knowledge Zone’, include the Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Sidra Medicine, the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), Qatar University, and Cerner. Qatar Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior will also be in attendance and will feature special mobile healthcare services. Cerner, a global leader in healthcare technology and provider of the electronic health records platform used across Qatar, will participate in the launch of a joint project with PHCC and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) that demonstrates patient-centred care.
Other stands confirmed for this year’s ‘Knowledge Zone’ will feature the latest advancements from some of HMC specialised centres, including the ITQAN Clinical Simulation and Innovation Centre, Qatar Organ Donation Centre (HIBA), the Tobacco Control Centre, and Hamad International Training Centre. Additionally, the Ambulance Service will stage live demonstrations in a specially-designed presentation area, which will also feature select poster presentations.
HMC Acting Chief Medical Officer and Middle East Forum Co-Chair, Dr Abdulla Al Ansari, explained how this year’s forum theme ‘Building a Culture of Safety’ fits perfectly within the ‘Knowledge Zone’.

Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI) will present its revised mandate of being a catalyst for change through targeted training and development opportunities that promote capacity and capability in quality improvement. Dr Ron Wyatt, Chief Quality Officer at HMC and Medical Director of HHQI explained how the Forum will highlight recent quality improvement efforts.

The HMC exhibition stand will showcase one of this year’s key forum topics, ‘Joy at Work’ and will engage with stand visitors to demonstrate the importance of the concept, not only to the individual but also to the organisation and patients. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) will again demonstrate its full set of Open School online courses, which are free to all full-time students.
Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at HMC and Middle East Forum Co-Chair highlighted the value of combining different modes of education to promote a shared understanding of the goals for patient safety across Qatar.
This Forum is an important learning event where delegates can earn the continuing professional development credit hours needed to qualify for relicensing in Qatar. Equally important is the informal opportunity it presents the delegates to learn from and share knowledge with their peers.’
The Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare provides an ideal setting for continuing professional development (CPD) and delegates can earn up to 19 CPD hours. Two additional bonus hours are available for a limited number of delegates attending two lunch and learn workshops.
