Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has designated a dedicated treatment facility for children afflicted with COVID-19 who require hospital admission. The new Al Wakra Pediatric COVID-19 Center is located within the Al Wakra Hospital campus.

The decision to designate this centre as a COVID-19 treatment facility is a proactive measure following the recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar, to ensure that COVID-19 paediatric patients are given the very best medical care possible. This state-of-the-art facility will enable HMC to provide high-quality care for young patients in one location.

State-of-the-art facility for paediatric patients

The state-of-the-art health centre provides a modern, safe healing environment to ensure paediatric patients who need hospitalisation are provided with high-quality care. It will also enable medical teams to provide the best care possible to COVID-19 paediatric patients.

The centre provides 39 inpatient beds, including four intensive care beds and 22 observation beds for short-stay patients. The centre can also increase capacity up to 140 inpatient beds if needed.

The centre, exclusively for confirmed COVID-19 paediatric patients, will offer patient evaluation, to assess if patients require home isolation or if they require medical observation and therefore, need to be admitted for a short stay or for long-term medical observation.

Children with suspected COVID-19, displaying signs and symptoms, should visit any one of HMC’s four Pediatric emergency centres located in Al Sadd, Al Dayeen, Airport, Al Rayan. They can also visit any of the health centres under the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) for a COVID-19 test.
