Embarking on a staycation is an enticing way to find relaxation and rejuvenation without the need for extensive travel. Selecting a location that melds the comfort of luxury with the essence of the local culture elevates the experience immeasurably.

The Ned Doha is the third Ned hotel and members’ club, and its first location in the Middle East. Created by Soho House founder Nick Jones in 2017, the company expanded in 2022 to include The Ned NoMad in New York and in 2023 with The Ned Doha. This third Ned property is in the former site of the Ministry of Interior, set across five floors overlooking the Arabian Gulf and Doha’s famous skyline, as well as Al Bidda Park and the Amiri Diwan. With its prime location and stunning views, The Ned Doha offers a unique staycation experience that combines luxury, culture, and tranquility.

Large Sea View Room

Upon entering The Ned, I was captivated by the lavish interior reminiscent of 1970s glamour. The space is adorned with terrazzo flooring, plush silk draperies, and elegant marble furnishings, setting the tone for a lavish retreat. The efficient check-in process was a fitting introduction to the grandeur that awaited in my quarters.

Greeted by the vast expanse of the Arabian Gulf and the picturesque Corniche, my large sea view room features a regal emperor bed with a striking fan-shaped headboard, a dining area for two, a cosy corner sofa, and a balcony complete with outdoor seating.

Echoing the design aesthetics of the 1970s, the bedroom boasts the original architectural coffered concrete ceilings, now meticulously restored. The ambience pays homage to the past, featuring carefully selected drinks cabinets, vintage radios, retro telephones, and elegant glass and silverware. In a clever blend of old-world charm and modern technology, the television is discreetly concealed behind a curtain, while the light switches and bathroom fixtures are crafted in vintage brass designs for an antique touch.

The spacious bathroom is a testament to elegance, clad in refined marble, and offers both a rejuvenating rainforest shower and a standalone, classic bathtub for a tranquil escape. The pampering extends with a full array of Cowshed toiletries complemented by eco-friendly extras such as a loofah, wooden comb, razor, and toothbrush, enhancing the luxurious experience with a touch of environmental consideration. The lavishness continues beyond the bath essentials; guests have access to top-of-the-line conveniences including a Dyson hairdryer, hair straightener, and lint remover, thoughtfully placed on period vanity desks, marrying function with vintage flair.

Wellness at The Ned

Transitioning from my room, I made my way to the fourth floor to indulge in the wellness offerings at Ned’s Club Spa. The space welcomes both members and hotel guests to a variety of spa services, as well as a sauna, steam room, gym, and traditional hammam.

After slipping into a robe, I settled onto a heated bed that contoured to my body, I surrendered to the skilled hands of my therapist, Macreen, who applied a medium pressure massage using a balancing oil. She began the session by having me deeply inhale the soothing scent of lemongrass, setting a peaceful tone for the session.

An hour later, rejuvenated and holding a glass of detox water, I felt a profound sense of calm, all tension eased and with my muscles gently relaxed – next on the agenda was dinner.

Spa treatment hours: 10 am – 9:30 pm
Spa treatments start at:

  • QAR 350 for a half-body tension release massage lasting 30 minutes.
  • QAR 650 for a full-body massage with a duration of 60 minutes.

Dinner at Electric Diner

Electric Diner, situated on the first floor of the hotel, offers a casual atmosphere perfect for savouring classic American favourites. The space is inviting, decked out with LCD screens for patrons who enjoy catching their favourite sports matches. Additionally, the diner presents an outdoor seating option for diners to take pleasure in their meals in the fresh air with views of the Corniche.

We began with appetisers, savouring the smoked salmon soldiers and generous pastrami cheese fries. This was followed by a classic Caesar salad garnished with anchovies.

Our dining experience was elevated by an enchanting live performance positioned centrally on a stage, framed by the grandeur of an impressive atrium. This dynamic setting created a delightful prelude to our evening feast.

The heartiness continued with a turkey club sandwich layered with maple beef bacon, alongside a comforting generous serving of mac and cheese.

Although we were quite full from the ample servings of appetisers and sandwiches, our amiable waiter Amine suggested we shouldn’t miss out on their warm chocolate cookie with creamy vanilla ice cream. He also recommended trying some mocktails, like the lychee floral spritz, to round off a delightful meal.

Breakfast at Millie’s Lounge

After a restful night’s sleep in the luxurious bedding of The Ned, I drew back the curtains, unveiling a breathtaking view of the sparkling bay, an inspiring start to the day.

For breakfast, I made my way to Millie’s Lounge, an international brasserie adorned with vintage-style decor. I began with a warm cup of cappuccino and then savoured a beautifully prepared omelette and eggs Benedict. The dishes were cooked just as I prefer and served with a side of toast, jam, and butter.

Sadly, after breakfast, it was time to pack and leave. Wishing I had stayed another night, I checked out feeling rested, yet not quite ready to face the week’s chores.

  • Daily 6 am – midnight
