Mosaic delivers a magnificent Indian Curry Friday Brunch, part of the October culinary festival Flavours of MO at Mandarin Oriental, Doha.

Last Friday we enjoyed the Indian Curry Brunch at Mosaic, where the majority of dishes were of Indian flavours but there were plenty of international dishes, including sushi and sashimi, to delight everybody, and Chef de Cuisine Rohit Nair was on hand and very helpful with any requested information and recommendations.

As you enter the Mosaic on the eighth floor, your breath is taken away by the beautiful, varied and colourful culinary arrangements in front of your eyes: the soups, breads, appetisers, salads, Indian snacks, freshly made chapati, expertly mixed soft drinks – and that’s before you contemplate the ‘main’ choices and then the cheeses and what seems like dozens of sweet desserts. Oh, my sweet tooth…

There was a nice atmosphere in the room, people were happy, enjoying, chatting – this is a lively place! After an introductory crispy pani pourri ’shot’, we were pleasantly surprised by the soups: a favourite chicken shorba and in our case the perfectly seasoned and flavoured tomato basil soup which we enjoyed with some of the variety of breads on offer.

With a wistful look at the healthy Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian and international appetisers, and our table neighbours really enjoying their plates of eye-catching sushi, I surveyed the succulent main offerings; what to choose from this enticing array: the prime roasted USA striploin, Kolhapur mutton, Tandoori prawns, Hariya chicken kabab, sherry fish masala, Hyderabad lamb biryani, the Tandoori chicken, the lamb ribs, the gorgeous plump pieces of salmon and glistening fresh fish waiting to be tandoor-ed… the choice seems endless! Each looked scrumptious and I can personally vouch for the luscious lamb!

It must be said that all the staff were attentive and helpful; there’s no waste as the portions are small if you only want a taste (but obviously you can take as much as you want). I find the Mandarin Oriental, Doha staff always intelligent, in addition to their unfailingly hospitable nature, of course. The sheer variety of dishes, and the diversity of ingredients of each dish, shows also how hard they work for our satisfaction.

The choice (and taste) of the cheeses was great, and the assortment of utterly delectable desserts was amazing. And… Chef Rohit brought us cups of karak for a fitting, finishing touch.

Priced at QAR295 (including soft beverages) per person. For an extra QAR 130, you have a choice of some amazing cocktails, plus white, rosé, red and golden wine and beer; for QAR 300 you can also sip the famous Italian sparkling; and for QAR 500 those with something really special to celebrate, Mosaic has something from that special charming French region of Champagne.

‘Flavours of MO’ continues through October.
