It is the time of the year to get the gardening kit out, as the weather has started cooling down favouring the planting season. With an interest in gardening, one can easily turn the tiniest backyard or windowsill to a beautiful patch of blooms. While the multi-service Baladiya app, by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, makes shopping for plants super easy on the pocket. 

The app can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices. Once downloaded, click the category ‘Services’ to reach sub-category ‘Plant Nurseries’. You will be taken to a page listing the available small plants and saplings with prices. Add the preferred items to ‘basket’ and place your order.

You will receive a confirmation message, similar to below, with contact number and nursery location to your registered phone number. Payment is made at the nursery, only card payments are accepted.

 

Plants and saplings available on the app include jatropha, periwinkle, spanish jasmine, tamaraind, desert fan palm, white mulberry, moses-in-the-cradle, euphorbia, and fountainbush. The app has the scientific names of the plants mentioned, but accompanying pictures will help you identify the plant variety.

You may also visit the Airports Plant Nursery and choose from the plants displayed for sale. The plant names are written in Arabic, but the attentive staff will help you in choosing the items for your garden.

 

A flowering plant is sold at QAR2 while the price of a fruit/vegetable sapling is QAR5. Only 20 plants/saplings are allowed per purchase, you may visit the same day or the next to buy more. The opening hours 5 am – 11 am, Sunday – Thursday. Here is the location map.

Things to note before you visit:

  • Airport Plants Nursery is open only from 5 am – 11 am, it is closed during weekends
  • The plants are sold in nursery grow bags, make sure you have the pots and potting soil ready at home to transfer the plants
  • Only card payments accepted
  • More flowering plants are expected by December
