Milaha has selected Royal HaskoningDHV, a leading independent, international project management and engineering consultancy firm based in the UK and the Netherlands, to develop plans to upgrade its shipyard facilities in Mesaieed.
Since its foundation in 1978, Milaha’s strategically-located shipyard has repaired approximately 8,000 vessels. The shipyard also serves the industrial markets by providing maintenance, shutdown, fabrication and workshops services.
Speaking on the upgrade plans, Milaha president and CEO Abdulrahman Essa Al Mannai said that the phased upgrade plan for the shipyard is to support their business strategy and increase the shipyard’s market share in four diversified target market sectors, all with minimal disruption to the ongoing operations at the facility.
When completed, the shipyard will have an increased capacity and efficiency in handling ship repair works of larger and more complex size and ensure a world class service solution for all its clients. The planned upgrades will include a new larger floating dock, a larger and enhanced workshops and an overall revamping of the facilities aimed as part of introducing unique services to support specialised areas of the ongoing development in Qatar.
Royal HaskoningDHV CEO Erik Oostwegel said they are honoured to be appointed by Milaha shipyard for the major upgrade in the production facilities, which he said is set to meet the challenges of the next 40 years. The upgrade is expected to commence in early 2019 and completed by third quarter of 2020.
