Doha Maroon Currently Tops Leaderboard

The National Club Rugby Championship organised by Qatar Rugby ScheduleRugby Federation (QRF) continues to heat up, with Doha Maroon topping the scoreboard and only two rounds left before the start of the highly-anticipated semi-final matches.

Doha Maroon is currently in first place with 20 points, followed closely by the Camels, who trail just three points behind. Dave Ford, captain of Doha Maroon, said they are still pursuing their main goal, which is going the entire season undefeated.

We have some big friendlies coming up against Kuwait and Muscat before, hopefully, a winner takes all final against the Camels. New coach Regan Sue has recently come on board from New Zealand and brought a new level of intensity that we can hopefully take forward to convincingly winning the league.’

As part of QRF’s drive to engage with local clubs and promote the sport at a grassroots level, a number of matches also took place on Friday afternoon at the Doha Rugby Football Centre (DRFC), including a selection of U17 boys and girls games, and a women’s game.

Doha Gold and Doha Vets also goes head to head in the six round of the competition this week. The teams, currently placed fourth and fifth respectively, will play at DRFC at 7 pm. The games are open to the public, and visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of QAR50.

The National Club Rugby Championship is set to conclude in March, with matches in three different venues across the country, including Al Khor, DRFC, and Aspire Zone’s Warm-Up Track.
