Just days after opening its registration for the 8th edition of Ramadan Sports Festival, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has already reached capacity and decided on the final list of teams participating at one of the festival’s most anticipated annual events – the men’s football tournament – which is scheduled to commence on 8 May.
More than 1,000 participants are expected to take part in various group and individual competitions that will form part of the schedule for the 2019 Ramadan Sports Festival. Reaching capacity of the men’s football tournament early on shows the level of local anticipation ahead of the festival.
Under the group category, 16 teams have confirmed their participation in the men’s football tournament. The basketball, volleyball and futsal competitions will be held for males only and 12 teams will participate in each competition. Handball and basketball competitions will feature six teams in each category. Hockey tournaments will be available for both men and women.
It is expected that the individual competitions will attract a large number of participants, coming from all age groups. This consists of youth fitness competitions, women’s fitness, wall climbing tournament and Aspire Dome walking.
AZF has also organised table tennis activities for persons with disabilities in various categories.
The success of previous years has motivated AZF to increase and diversify its activities to better accommodate as many segments of Qatari society as possible. Not only during Ramadan, but also throughout the year.
