Qatar Foundation is hosting its first performing arts festival, D’reesha, from 12 to 17 December in Education City to showcase a variety of local talents. The festival is in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Qatar National Day and Daam Fund.

D’reesha will encompass different focus areas – including research, education, technology, and science – and will feature theatre performances, visual arts and music showcases, workshops, interactive dining experiences and even storytelling sessions.

According to Qatar Foundation Community Development President Machaille Hassan Al-Naimi, they are delighted to host and bring to life the first performing arts festival in Education City.

Showcasing and celebrating the local culture, heritage and language, D’reesha reflects our diverse and inclusive environment. And, serving as an opportunity for the whole community to explore their curiosity, creativity and individuality, it will help connect like-minded individuals, increase intercultural dialogue, and build a sustainable performing arts culture in Qatar.

Most importantly, she said that D’reesha reflects a love of art, which is in the very fabric of Qatar and follows the country’s ambitions of being a hub of arts and culture in the region and beyond.

Taking place during the FIFA Arab Cup 2021™, D’reesha will offer a glimpse into what can be expected next year when Qatar hosts the World Cup. It will also showcase how Education City truly is a gateway to a vibrant community.

Director of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Mariam Al-Hamadi, said that D’reesha is an opportunity to explore and nurture talent in the field of arts in Qatar. She said that the collaboration will help achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision, through cultural-focused partnerships with organisations across the country, and within key sectors such as science, research, and education.

Our centres at the Ministry of Culture, including the Theater Affairs Center and the Visual Arts Center, are working together to help promote creativity in Qatar.

Performances will take place across the Green Spine, the Ceremonial Court, and the Chef’s Garden at Education City, and will strictly adhere to social distancing guidelines set out by the Ministry of Public Health. Please note that tickets should be purchased ahead of the event.
