The Committee for Corniche Street closure announced that fines will be issued on vehicles using the dedicated public bus lane on A-Ring Road starting from 2 October.

According to the Committee, the lane is designated for use of public buses, taxis and authorised vehicles only. Relevant authorities will issue fines – based on Article 49 – for all unauthorised vehicles that use the lane. They will be allowed to use the lane only from 2 am to 8 am.

Please note that the designation of a dedicated lane for public buses, taxis and authorised vehicles was announced in July and included in the measures designed by the Committee to provide smooth transport experiences for fans during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

The A-Ring Road is considered one of Doha’s most vital roads, as it links a variety of commercial and residential areas and service facilities, as well as many tourist destinations.

New traffic regulations in Central Doha

The Committee also announced the implementation of a vehicle plate management plan to reduce traffic in Central Doha.

The plan, which will be implemented every Friday from 3 pm to 10 pm starting this Friday, 30 September, will divert vehicles with general transport number plates and black private transport number plates away from central Doha. This new scheme covers Al Khafji street from the north, C-Ring Road from the west and south and Corniche Street from the east.

The plan will come into full effect daily from 1 November, as part of the preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022™ to minimise traffic and ensure smooth transportation operations throughout the country.

People who own only one vehicle (with either a general transport number plate or private black number plate), as well as Mowasalat and Qatar Rail public transport vehicles and emergency vehicles, are exempted from the plan and will still be able to access these roads.

Relevant authorities will issue fines, based on Article 49, on all vehicles that access Central Doha during the implementation period and are not included in the exemptions.

The scheme was already tested during the recent Lusail Super Cup and based on the results, it was decided that the plan will be implemented to support the efforts of various stakeholders in ensuring smooth transport experiences in Central Doha during the tournament.
