The State of Qatar will participate as ‘guest country’ in the upcoming St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), scheduled to be held in June 2021.

Qatar Chamber (QC) recently hosted a virtual introductory meeting with the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC), to review the commercial and economic ties between Qatar and Russia, and identify the latest developments regarding the country’s participation in SPIEF. The webinar was held under the theme, ‘Qatari-Russian Cooperation Opportunities’.

QC board member and chair of the Qatari-Russian Business Council, HE Engineer Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misnad, together with QRCC Chairman of the Supervisory Board, HE Fahad bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, participated in the webinar, which was also joined by QC board members.

Addressing the event, Engineer Al Misnad stressed the importance of the webinar in preparation for Qatar’s participation in SPIEF.

Al Misnad said the forum represents a genuine opportunity for participants to conclude agreements and deals, as well as discuss key economic issues facing the world. QC will participate in the next forum, alongside several ministries, institutions and economic and developmental bodies in the country.

He expressed his confidence that SPIEF will contribute to strengthening the relations between Qatar and Russia, especially between the two countries’ private sectors.

St Petersburg International Economic Forum

SPIEF is the largest investment and economy-focused event of its kind in the eastern hemisphere. The presentations delivered during the webinar highlighted details on SPIEF history and the benefits for Qatar as a guest country.

The honorary position will allow Qatar to organise business events as well as exhibitions and cultural events, in addition to its own national pavilion to showcase the country’s economic, industrial, cultural, and tourism offerings. At least 50 entities from Qatar are expected to join SPIEF. Qatar’s pavilion area is approximately 3,900 square metres, with four zones for exhibiting and non-exhibiting participants.
