The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Official Countdown Clock, powered by Hublot, was unveiled this Sunday, 21 November, at the Corniche Fishing Spot, marking one year to go to the big kick-off.

The striking timepiece was revealed to fans worldwide who tuned in live to Join the Beat via FIFA’s YouTube channel and Qatar2022.qa.

The elegant curves of the Countdown Clock were inspired by the unbroken loop of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ emblem and the ancient timekeeping tool of the hourglass, both reflecting the interconnected nature of the event. The structure is designed to be seen from any angle and reflect the amazing view of the city skyline behind it.

The Countdown Clock will drive anticipation as it ticks down through every hour, minute and second to the opening game at Al Bayt Stadium on 21 November 2022.

The ceremony was attended by a group of officials and senior guests, in addition to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and athletes from several countries such as Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o, UK’s David Beckham and former Brazilian defender Cafu.

With exactly one year to go until the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, Qatar has proudly completed the construction of all eight tournament venues.

So far, Qatar has built seven entire stadiums specifically to host the World Cup competitions, while Khalifa International Stadium has witnessed comprehensive development work.

The finishing touches were recently applied to Lusail Stadium, the 80,000-capacity venue that will host next year’s final. Lusail is one of seven venues to have been built from scratch.
