Falcon Ride, the Qatari provider of micro-mobility solutions, has made its first overseas investment in the Southeast Asian market with a strategic collaboration agreement with Malaysia’s TRYKE Transportation Sdn Bhd (TRYKE) ride-sharing provider.

The partnership will allow both businesses to explore areas of opportunity in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Falcon Ride in Malaysia

Electric bikes and scooters powered by Falcon Ride are being deployed in the Malaysian city of Cyberjaya. This kicks-off the second pilot programme of the city that includes e-bikes and e-scooters. TRYKE has started deploying e-bikes and e-scooters this March and will officially launch a full rollout of Falcon’s vehicles by April.

The partnership between Falcon Ride and TRYKE has allowed Falcon Ride to make an overseas expansion to Southeast Asia. Falcon Ride plans to share their expertise in IoT hardware design, software development and solar charging technologies to further strengthen their micro-mobility capabilities.

The newly deployed e-bikes have a battery that can be swapped without having to bring the entire bike to the charging station. There’s also an integrated geolocation system that allows it to get live updates of location, battery levels and vehicle status.

Micro-mobility

According to TRYKE Founder Tim Wong, the SEA region is still highly reliant on traditional and personal modes of transportation despite boasting some of the worst traffic congestion statistics in the world.

We strongly believe that micro-mobility can help shift transportation habits in the region while creating value for investors, communities and cities alike. We are excited to tackle this massive problem with Falcon Ride and this fleet launch is only the first step of many.

Falcon Ride said that their collaboration with TRYKE will assist the company’s ambitions to provide innovative and eco-friendly micro-mobility solutions, whether with a bike or a scooter. This addition is a great advancement in the mode of transportation as an open-air, socially-distanced transportation option.

We are very keen on this partnership as this is the first milestone of our plan to expand further in the region, keeping in mind our goal of offering alternative modes of green transportation, adds Hussain Abdulla, Falcon Ride co-founder and Managing Director.

Both companies aim to continue to incentivize eco-friendly alternatives not only in their own regions but also in different parts of the world.
