At Waldorf Astoria it’s guaranteed you will experience effortless luxury and elegant service. And now a new Waldorf Astoria is in the centre of Doha, like the original Waldorf Astoria which burst onto the scene in the centre of New York city and became an absolute magnet for top businessmen, politicians and artists, where the rich and famous of that era flocked to and courted publicity and indeed stardom.

It was by excelling in all fields that The Waldorf Astoria became the very epitome of success. In service, facilities, accommodation and indeed cuisine, with which we are concerned here, there is no expense spared to create the best experience.

If you’re expecting fast food and cowboy hats, this is definitely not the place for you. The Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay and its Tribeca Market reflect cosmopolitan New York and especially the area in Lower Manhattan known for its famous celebrities, diverse restaurants, its amazing cityscape plus breathtaking waterfront views – a bohemian enclave where the most prized qualities include creativity and individuality.

Tribeca Market is impressively large, and full of life. It has a wonderful atmosphere, lots of people, lots of staff, lots of activity. Divided into curated stations, you’ll find near the entrance the fresh greens, so many salads and dips, past the refreshing drinks bar you have the carvery, turn left and you’ll see the intricate Japanese and Chinese creations being formed, there’s a sandwich counter with rolls of Long Island Lobster and Atlantic Salmon to name just two, further over there’s a bakery section (love the sourdough!), a cheese section with some names I hadn’t seen before and of course a very colourful and enticing dessert section.

You can feel the energy and creativity; multi-talented staff confidently showcase their diverse skills. By the way, I forgot to mention the exotic seafood and caviar – make that a selection of different caviars – and how could I except to say that the restaurant is a hive of activity, not to mention also the singer and accompanist who add melodic ambience to your appetite.

Staff are proactive and seem to anticipate your needs. The menu and drinks were shown and, when asked, recommendations were there. The drinks flowed including an Italian sparkling white, dubbed ‘poetic’ and that Spanish staple, Sangria, an ideal drink to accompany an international brunch. Different chefs were all eager to offer a taste of their delectable and distinctive creations. The Chinese chef was very helpful in his explanations, and the French Pastry chef brought over a small freshly baked loaf after we had mentioned how we liked sourdough; the same chef, towards the end of our meal (so perfectly timed!) presented us with a heavenly honey-soaked crêpe. Délicieuse!

After the tasty starters, sushi and other mini delicacies, we moved to the Main Course. Whether you like oven-roasted striploin, slow-cooked brisket or a real Atlantic Salmon, they are cooked to perfection with a wonderful and varied selection of potato and French beans – culinary treats in both texture and taste. There are also burgers on the menu, here made with real Black Angus beef and accompanied by gruyere, comté and shallot marmalade, oven-roasted turkey with all the so-tasty trimmings, spaghetti and Middle-eastern mixed grill, so there’s absolutely something – and something really nice – for everyone.

Cheeses were white, yellow and blue, hard and soft, round and square, triangular and cylindrical, from goat and cow with lots of seeds and dried fruit to accompany. Equally diverse and plentiful are the sweet desserts – cute little works of art, large and small bowls of sensual indulgence, sweet surrender to slices of fruit tart and an awesome, fantastic full Opera Cake.

Thoroughly recommendable. It’s a great and fun place to experience – a delicious and satisfying brunch on so many levels.
