The Midnight Club

Seems like horror is the theme of the week with Halloween just around the corner. If you are a fan of The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, their creator Mike Flanagan is serving a new horror mystery-thriller series this weekend. It’s titled The Midnight Club, based on Christopher Pike’s works, and tells the story of a group of terminally ill teenagers living in a hospice who get together at midnight to tell ghost stories. In one of their meetings, they made a pact that whoever dies first will send a sign from beyond the grave. And when one of them died, bizarre occurrences begin and a frightening force begins to haunt them.

Mr Harrigan’s Phone
Netflix, Now Streaming

Also streaming on Netflix is another adaptation from Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Mr Harrigan’s Phone explores the unlikely friendship between poor teenager Craig (Jaeden Martell) and elderly billionaire Mr Harrigan (Donald Sutherland) which started when the latter hired the former to read him books. Their bond became stronger, with Mr Harrigan teaching Craig how to deal with his enemies, and Craig helping Mr Harrigan discover the wonders of smartphones. When Mr Harrigan died, Craig wanted to remain connected to his old friend and constantly communicated with him through his smartphone. Little did Craig know, Mr Harrigan will respond and will help him avenge against those who torment him.

If you are looking for an edge-of-your-seat horror novel to read this weekend, grab this latest book from Amy Christine Parker. Flight 171 revolves on a four-hour flight that takes a nightmarish turn when a supernatural creature gives a group of high school students a sinister ultimatum. Main character Devon Marsh was tasked to sacrifice one among her friends before the end of the flight. If she fails to choose, the plane will crash. And while the clock ticks, the creature unearths the each passenger’s deepest, darkest secrets.

Charlie Puth, 7 October

Grammy-nominated American musician Charlie Puth is releasing his third studio album this weekend. The self-titled album features 12 tracks and is billed as his most personal record to date, with every song authentically representing a piece of himself.
