The US Embassy is proud to highlight the success of Dr Nasser Sahim Al-Jassim, Deputy Director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, who participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) – Promoting Social Change Through Music.

Dr Nasser Sahim Al-Jassim

The US Embassy and the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) facilitated the programme that took place from 24 June to 18 July and featured 19 talented musicians from around the world. Showcasing how music genres reflect the diversity of the United States, the exchange programme took Dr Al-Jassim and other participants to New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and New Orleans.

The three-week programme, which examined music production, management and talent-scouting techniques, culminated with performances at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

Dr Nasser’s remarkable performance of a song by Sita Hagobian during the event garnered significant attention. A video of the performance is on view at the New Orleans Jazz Museum’s YouTube page.

Dr Nasser expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. He said that participating in the IVLP programme was an inspiring experience that allowed him to connect with fellow musicians from diverse backgrounds.

This exchange not only enriched my musical perspective but also highlighted the potential of music to drive positive social change.

The IVLP is a flagship ECA programme that provides emerging leaders from around the world with the opportunity to learn about US culture, society, and institutions. The programme is designed to foster mutual understanding and cooperation between the United States and other countries.
