The United States will end its COVID-19 vaccination requirements for international travellers and federal workers on 11 May, when the coronavirus public health emergency ends. The announcement was made by the White House this Monday, 1 May.

Today, we are announcing that the Administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and international air travellers at the end of the day on 11 May, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends.

The statement also said that since January 2021, COVID-19 deaths have declined by 95%, and hospitalisations are down nearly 91%. Globally, COVID-19 deaths are at their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic.

While vaccination remains one of the most important tools in advancing the health and safety of employees and promoting the efficiency of workplaces, the White House statement said they are now in a different phase of response when these measures are no longer necessary.

US President Joe Biden announced in April that he had officially called for an end to the national health emergency.
