Aubrey Bledsoe Kingsbury, a goalkeeper on the US Women’s National Soccer Team currently competing in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in Australia and New Zealand, released a video message to the people of Qatar and thanked them for their support.

Aubrey shared her gratitude for the warm reception she received during her visit to Qatar in 2020 as part of a cultural exchange programme hosted by the US Embassy. The hospitality and beauty of the country, which was then preparing to host the 2022 World Cup, left a lasting impression on her.

In her message, Aubrey greeted and thanked the sports fans in Qatar.

Hello, sports fans of Qatar! I’m Aubrey Kingsbury, a goalkeeper on the US Women’s National Team, and I’m here in New Zealand for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. I had the opportunity to visit Qatar in 2020 for a cultural exchange program, and I loved visiting your people and seeing your beautiful country.

Audrey said she is looking forward to having fans in Qatar cheer them on as they defend their title and go for a historic three-peat.

In addition to representing the United States of America on the national team, Aubrey plays for the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League. While in Qatar, the Washington Spirit played a friendly match against members of the Qatar Women’s National Soccer Team, trained with local youth and visited cultural sites.

The US Women’s National Team played its first match of the 2023 World Cup on Saturday, 22 July, defeating the team from Vietnam. They will face The Netherlands this Thursday, 27 July and Portugal on Tuesday, 1 August. They were World Cup champions in 2015 and 2019.

With the support of fans in Qatar who warmly welcomed her three years ago, Aubrey Kingsbury and her teammates are determined to deliver a remarkable performance, all the way to the finals on 20 August.  Aubrey’s message serves as a testament to the power of sports to create bonds around the world.
